From Yunnan,
quietly, since 2008.

— OUR PRINCIPLE —

Only stones we could trace back to the valley they came from.

We started in 2008 in a small room off the Ruili jade market — three people, one polishing wheel, and one principle.

Eighteen years on, that principle hasn’t changed. Every piece we sell is sourced from Tengchong valley or northern Burma, certified Type A by NGTC, and finished by hand in our Yunnan studio. We turn down nine roughs in ten. The tenth, we keep on the bench for as long as it takes.

Master Chen is the fourth in his family to do this work. His grandfather kept ink drawings of every cut; we still consult them. His mother handled all the negotiating in the valley until 2019; her notebooks are in our archive. We are, in essence, a small house — three craftsmen, two apprentices, and an office in Kunming that handles everything else.

“A piece is finished when it is finished —
not when it sells.” — Master Chen, 2021
— FOUR GENERATIONS —

Pattern books, kept since 1947.

The Chen family began working jade in 1947. The first pattern book, drawn in ink by Master Chen’s great-grandfather, is bound in cloth and kept under glass in the workshop. Every cut we have made in the last forty years is recorded somewhere in those volumes — angles, weights, polishing times, the customer’s name in cases where the piece was a commission.

We consult the books before every major piece. Not for nostalgia — for technique. Some problems we solve today were solved sixty years ago, often better.
